Course Overview

This apprenticeship includes the Level 2 Certificate in Golf Greenkeeping, and has been developed by the Golf Training Council (GTC) in consultation with employers, training providers and the golf industry. It offers a rounded qualification that includes essential knowledge, skill and behaviours needed to work in the industry. Units include all mowing activities, course preparation, health and safety and plant identification. Past learners have won awards, including the coveted Saltex Cup and have benefited from learning at the College’s own golf course.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through an end-point assessment including a personal statement, practical assessment and knowledge paper. Your knowledge and skills will be continually assessed through building an e-portfolio, completing written questions and practical assessments in the workplace. You will also receive regular feedback from your employer.

Progression Options

This is a qualification that can take you around the world, working for golf courses. You find employment at supervisory level, or as a grounds person or sales representative. Alternatively, you could continue your studies with a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 2 (A* to E) range including English and maths,
or an appropriate Level 1 Functional Skills qualification. Course entry is
subject to an initial assessment in English and maths in order to determine the
appropriate level of study, and a successful interview is
required.
