Computing and Games students visit EGX at the NEC - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Games Development, Computing and Business students from Taunton and Bridgwater campuses had the opportunity to go to EGX, a gaming convention at Birmingham’s NEC.

At this event learners had the opportunity to experience new and upcoming games that are set to be released. There was also an opportunity to ‘meet and greet’ experienced games developers from the top AAA games through to indie games.

This allowed learners a chance to ask questions to a number of individuals about what skills they would need to enter the industry and how to get a foot in to a very difficult industry to break.

There were also e-Sports tournaments held throughout the convention where learners could go, watch and inquire into how to set up their own gaming events in this breakthrough area of games development and business.

Course Leader, David Matravers, said,

“It was as ever a thoroughly enjoyable day out for both staff and students, with lots of opportunities to witness new and innovative technologies along with exciting lectures from industry specialists.”

Level 3 Games Development student Leo Dela Rosa added,

“The event gave me an exciting opportunity to look into the potential careers I could apply for in the industry and also allowed me to have a sneak peek at up and coming games, soon to be released.”
