Education Access to Higher Education Diploma - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This very popular course is forapplicants agedover 19, interested in returning to education but lack confidence becausethey may not have appropriate qualifications. The Access to HE course is designed to meet learners’ needs by helping to gain new skills and qualifications.Successful learnerscan use the qualification to gain a place at university or to enhance career prospects.

All our Access Diplomas are made up of three Level 3 units with graded academic subject content and other Level 2 or ungraded Level 3 academic preparation skills units which offer generic, introductory or personal development skills.

On the Education Diplomalearners can therefore choose three from the following subjects: Education, Biology, Chemistry, English, Maths, Geography, History, Psychology or Sociology, andwill also study core components such as study skills, ICT, English and Maths.

Assessment Methods

Students will produce a portfolio of work over the year and gain credits for their assignments. There are exams in some subjects.

Progression Options

Students receive lots of help in making decisions about progression routes, and help and advice with the selection of university and college courses, including support with applications and interview procedures.

Progression can be onto HE qualifications here at Bridgwater & Taunton College’s University Centre Somerset, including Education & Training Level 4 Certificate and Education & Training Level 5 Diploma.

Please note: most university courses require GCSE Maths and/or English. There is opportunity to study both alongside the Access programme, if needed.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal qualifications required for entry, but applicants will
undergo an initial assessment and interview to ensure they are on the right
course for their skill level. Applicants must be aged 19 or over and have the
motivation and a willingness to learn!

We also have a summer school before the course starts to help students get
back into learning – building confidence in English, Maths, and study skills and
providing guidance for writing a personal statement.
