Creative Arts Practice - Experimentation - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

Who the course is for? This is a new course for individuals who are either new to making art and keen to explore different areas of creative endeavour as well as those with more experience looking to extend their creative skills. The work undertaken will be varied using different media and including drawing, painting and potentially photography and modelling. What makes this course special? This course is ideal for those looking to experiment creatively using a range of different media, some of which we hope you will not have used before. It will be fun. During the course we hope you will uncover your creative strengths and work to enhance the skills you already have and develop new ones. What is involved? This course will be starting in familiar areas and then asking you to look differently at the art that you create moving from the known into unknown areas using familiar and unfamiliar materials. Each week will be different, building on the skills used the week before. Additional costs There are no additional costs for the course. We will ask each learner to provide their own brushes (which can be bought through the college shop with advice from the tutor). The materials required each week will be provided.

Assessment Methods

There are no formal assessments for this course but each week you will be given a medium to work with and a brief.  Feedback through the session will be provided by your tutor.  If agreeable to all, peer critiques can also be part of each session.

An apprenticeship has been the best option for me since I benefit from working in the industry as well as gaining a qualification. College days give me time to work on my assignments and explore features in the software I haven’t covered at work. During the rest of the week, I develop client relationships which help build my confidence and improve my ability to express ideas.
