Course Overview

This qualification is designed for learners who are working in, or preparing to work in food manufacturing or in food supply chain operative, supervisory or management roles. The aim of this qualification is to assess underpinning knowledge to recognised National Occupational Standards

Units of study/what is involved

• Understand the legal responsibility of food handlers and food business operators
• Understand food safety hazards
• Understand how individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety
• Understand how food safety procedures can be used to control hazards
• Understand how to handle and record food safety hazards

SKILL UP SPRINGBOARD SPRINGS INTO ACTION

Springboard is offering Somerset’s small and medium-sized businesses access to free short courses for their staff.
Funded by the European Social Fund (ESF), the courses can provide a taster of a new topic area, or gentle (re)introduction to formal learning, via an accredited unit of a full qualification.

To be eligible to join the Springboard programme, you must:

• Be over the age of 18.
• Be in employment, including full time, part-time and self-employment, but
  not anybody on a 0-hour contract.
• Be working for a business based within the Somerset County Council
  authority area.
• Have the right to work in the UK.
