CPCS A09 Forward Tipping Dumper Wheeled - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This course is for anyone who requires training in operating a Forward Tipping Dumper or anyone who has experience but wants to achieve a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card.

The number of training days required will be adjusted according to existing experience.

Candidates do not need to have undertaken any previous training.

On successful completion of the course candidates will be able to:

  • Operate the machine to a minimum standard
  • Fit and operate ancillary equipment
  • Site the machine safely and efficiently
  • Know which minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures are necessary, and be able to carry them out
  • Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
  • Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  • Apply all necessary safety precautions
  • Understand how diesel engines work and how various parts of the machine operate

The course length depends on candidates experience. Experienced candidates can attend for an initial assessment follwing which the assessor will recommend the amount of training required.

We reccomend that a novice completes a minimum of three days of training, plus their test day.

Assessment Methods

  • Theory Test – a professional discussion carried out on a one-to-one basis with the CPCS tester. Candidates must pass this test in order to take the practical test.
  • Practical Test.

    Progression Options

    Having achieved the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card, candidates have two years to register for and complete the NVQ Plant Operations – Forward Tipping Dumper.

    On successful completion of the NVQ, candidates can apply for a Blue CPCS Competent Operator card.

    Candidates may wish to work towards becoming a multi-skilled plant operator and attend another course such as CPCS A17 Telescopic Handler.

    Entry Requirements

    Candidates will need to have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment
    (HS&E) Test within the previous two years. This can be taken at the
    College.


    Candidates must also have a good understanding of spoken and written English.
