Does the thought of using a computer to do anything make you nervous? Do you want a short course where you get useful training on how to use a computer to send emails or write a letter? We can help you with the basics, through to more complex tasks.You will learn a variety of topics from safe starting and shutting down of the computer to the use of email, word processing, spreadsheet, desktop publishing and database software the course is designed to fit around your needs.
This course is aimed at the beginner who may want to learn how to use the basics and build their confidence using a computer. This course leads naturally onto other courses, including the qualification European Computer Driving Licence courses.
You will have access to our excellent computer facilities and expertise to explore the capabilities of a computer over thefive-week course. This course is designed as an introduction to computers, with a particular emphasis on building confidence and developing core skills in Windows and Microsoft Office. It is especially useful for those wanting to progress can do so onto the next course at the next level ECDL(European Computer Driving Licence).
You will be shown how to do each task carefully and given time to undertake everything yourself and make notes to help you remember key actions. You will be assessed through a series of practical tasks tailored to your requirements.
Successful completion of this course can lead on to the ECDL essentials (European Computer Driving Licence) course run at the college.

I chose to study at BTC because of the excellent computing and IT facilities and, of the local colleges in the area, it seemed able to provide the best experience. My confidence has definitely developed during my time at the College. Interacting with new people and in a new environment has helped me come out of my comfort zone and progress personally.
