Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship Level 3 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

At the start of this course, you will need to have been offered an apprenticeship position from an employer within the relevant trade area.

The Level 3 Apprenticeship further develops your painting and decorating skills to an advanced level. The course covers a wide range of skills that are required for industry. With a large focus on practical skills, you will be taught and set practical tasks that require the production of advanced painting and decorating skills.

You will cover units such as:

  • Health, safety and welfare
  • Information, quantities and communication
  • Construction technology
  • Erect and dismantle access equipment and working platforms
  • Prepare surfaces for protection and decoration
  • Apply coatings by brush and roller
  • Apply wall coverings to ceilings and walls
  • Produce advanced decorative finishes
  • Carryout specialist architectural feature work
  • Apply waterborne paint systems using airless equipment

Working in partnership with the Construction Skills (CSkills), the construction section has a strong track record of producing a highly-skilled workforce for the construction industry.

Assessment Methods

Your skills will be assessed in a range of ways including observations, end of unit practical tests, production of a portfolio of your knowledge and practical work, online multiple-choice end of unit knowledge tests, practical and knowledge workbooks.

Progression Options

On successful completion you could progress on to a higher level construction course. Alternatively you could find employment in the construction industry or become a self-employed tradesperson.

Entry Requirements

You need to have completed an Level 2 Apprenticeship in Painting &
Decorating and have GCSEs in the A* to C or 9 to 4 range in Maths and English,
or have completed a Level 1 Functional skill in both English and Maths.
Applicants outside of the GCSE entry A* to C or 9 to 4 range will be considered
but will have to complete Functional Skill Level 2 in English and Maths as part
of the course. Acceptance on the course is also subject to a successful
