Children and Young People's Workforce Advanced Apprenticeship (Residential Childcare Pathway) - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This course is suitable for learners aged 18 years and over, who have been working with children in residential children’s homes in England for at least 30 hours a week. It has been recently introduced by Skills for Care and Development. It is an excellent way to gain a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification while working in the residential childcare sector.

    • BTEC Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare (England) (QCF)
    • Level 2 Functional skills in English
    • Level 2 Functional skills in Maths
    • Level 2 Functional skills in ICT
    • Level 2 Award in Employment Rights and Responsibilities
    • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

This is an ideal opportunity for residential staff to study while working. It can be delivered to groups of learners in the workplace, rather than travelling to college premises to study. It is recognised by Ofsted as an appropriate qualification for the residential childcare sector.

    Assessment Methods

A variety of methods can be used for gathering evidence towards a QCF portfolio, including assignments, case studies, direct observations, professional discussions, work products and reflective accounts. Exams may be set for Functional Skills English, Maths and ICT parts of the Apprenticeship if relevant.

    Progression Options

On completion, learners may wish to progress to the BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (England) (QCF).
