Course Overview

You need to be employed to start an Apprenticeship. Please visit our vacancy page or contact 01278 441234 if you have an employer. If you are unable to secure employment, you could enrol on a full-time study programme and transfer to an Apprenticeship at a later date. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option.

This apprenticeship is suitable for you if you wish to study while earning a salary in paid employment. It is assessed in a work situation, combined knowledge and practical skills, andis a flexible programme. You will need to have the opportunity to be involved in planning learning activities in your workplace and is suitable for those new to the childcare sector.

Components include:

  • Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Functional Skills Level 2 in English, maths and ICT
  • Personal learning and thinking skills

We have excellent relationships with early years settings in the area and provide a supportive learning environment at College. The teaching staff and assessors have recent, relevant work place experience and enjoy the opportunity to nurture new practitioners.

You might like to buy a textbook to help you with this qualification, which can be bought from the LRC.

Assessment Methods

There are no written exams for the Certificate/Diploma. Instead you will build a portfolio which will include coursework and practical assessments in your workplace.  

You may be required to sit exams for Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT if you do not already have these.

Progression Options

On completion of this course you could apply to progress to an Level 3 Apprenticeship in Children and Young People’s Workforce.

Entry Requirements

To access the Intermediate Apprenticeship you need to be in relevant
employment and have GCSEs in the A* to E range or a relevant Level 1
qualification. You will also need an enhanced DBS check prior to employment and an
interview is required.

You are expected to have employment of at least 30 hours a week that will last the duration of the course.
