Children and Young People's Workforce Apprenticeship Level 3 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This Apprenticeship is designed to be suitable for those who wish to study while earning a salary in paid employment. They are assessed in a work situation and combine knowledge and practical skills. They are flexible programmes and learners will have the opportunity to be involved in planning learning activities in their workplace.

You will study all aspects of child care and learning including:

  • Care and development
  • Working safely with young children
  • Healthy environments
  • Learning through play

You will also have the opportunity to complete a paediatric first aid course.

The College has excellent relationships with early years employers in the area and we provide a supportive learning environment. The teaching staff and assessors have recent, relevant workplace experience and enjoy the opportunity to nurture new practitioners.

Assessment Methods

There are no written exams, instead you build a portfolio which will include coursework and practical assessments in your workplace. You may be required to sit exams for GCSEs in English and Maths, and Functional Skills Level 2 in ICT if they do not already have these.

Progression Options

Former learners have progressed into permanent positions in early years settings, and some have progressed to our Foundation Degree.

Entry Requirements

You need at least five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 range or a relevant Level 2
qualification with a Merit or Distinction. Ideally you need to have English and
maths at grade 4 or above.


Entry is subject to a successful interview and you are expected to have
employment in an early years setting. Your employment will need to last the
duration of the course and it is recommended that it cover at least two of the
following age ranges: 0 to 1 year 11 months; 2 to 2 years 11 months; 3 to 5
years.
