Early Years Practitioner Diploma Level 2 (adult) - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This Level 2 course is suitable for you if you are looking to work with children between birth and 5 years, and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. You do not need to have previous qualifications or experience in working with children to undertake this qualification. It is assessed in a work situation and combines knowledge and practical skills.It is a flexible programme.Allow up to 12 months to complete.

You will study a number of units in order to achieve the total number of unit credits for the qualification.Examples of areas you will study include:

  • Roles and responsibilities of the Early Years Practitioner
  • Safeguarding, protection and welfare of babies and young children in early years settings
  • Promote play in an early years setting
  • Partnership working in the early years

This course is recognised by the DfE as a full Level 2 Diploma, enabling you to be counted in staffing ratios across the Early Years workforce at Level 2.

Placements/work placements
You are expected to find your own voluntary placement of at least 8.5 hours a week in an early years setting prior to interview.The placement will need to last the duration of the course. You will already have a clear DBS prior to enrolment.

Assessment Methods

There are no written exams for this course. Instead you will build an e-portfolio which will include coursework and practical assessments in your voluntary placement.

Progression Options

This qualification can help you to find paid employment at Level 2 in the Early Years Workforce, working under supervision in roles such as:

  • Nursery practitioner
  • Pre-school practitioner
  • EYFS classroom assistant
