Course Overview

This Level 3 course is designed to be suitable for early years staff who are experienced in their role, and are involved in planning and key working. It is assessed in a work situation and combines knowledge and practical skills. It is a flexible programme and you will need to have the opportunity to be involved in planning learning activities in your workplace. Allow up to two years to complete.

This course comprises a number of mandatory units. Examples of areas you will study include:

• Child development from conception to seven years
• Theories which underpin practice
• Observation and assessment
• Safeguarding children
• Working in partnership with others.

There may be opportunity to meet and share with others working in a similar environment and compare and discuss current practice. This course offers you the opportunity to demonstrate competent performance of tasks related to your work and to develop your own skills and potential.

Assessment Methods

There are no written exams for this course. Instead you will build a portfolio which will include coursework and practical assessments in your workplace.

Progression Options

• On completion of this qualification you will need Functional Skills Level 2 or above in English and Maths to be able to be counted in ratios as a qualified Level 3 practitioner.
• Level 4 Certificate for the Early Years Advanced Practitioner
• Level 5 Diploma in Early Years.
