Course Overview

If you are interested in working as an electrician and look forward to the challenge of work but want to keep learning in a practical way, then this course is for you. A Level 3 NVQ Diploma is a way for you to acquire the skills required to become a fully qualified electrician.

Some of the things you will learn relating to electrotechnical systems and equipment in buildings, structures and the environment will include the knowledge and practical application of the following:

  • Health and Safety legislation
  • Environmental legislation, working practices and the principles of environmental technology systems
  • Overseeing and organising the work environment
  • Planning and selection of electrotechnical equipment
  • Preparation and installation of wiring
  • Termination and connection of conductors, cables and cords
  • Inspection, testing, commissioning and certification
  • Diagnosing and correcting electrical faults

Assessment Methods

You are assessed on your knowledge and skills on an on-going basis by external online tests, written assessments, site observations and other evidence that you meet the required standards throughout your training. There is also a three day external assessment – Achievement Measurement 2 (AM2). The College will provide an Assessor who will visit you in your workplace and support and assess how you are progressing. You will also be provided with a Training Officer to oversee your training and visit you at least once every three months to review your progress and help you with any problems you might have.

Progression Options

On successful completion you could progress to a higher level of QCF Electrical Training, including management, Inspection and Testing or Design & Verification.

Attendance Requirements You will receive comprehensive training at work and attend College Two evenings a week. This will give you the opportunity to perform real work, developing work-based skills valued by employers, helping you to progress in your chosen career.
