A special course designed for people who need to develop specific electrical maintenance skills as part of their job, i.e. mechanical engineers, fitters, operators etc.
This course is based on EMTA NVQ 2 (Electrical Engineering Maintenance) and takes the form of half a year, day release attendance, 16 days at College combined with an optional NVQ in the workplace which there will be an additional fee.
Typical performance objectives include wiring and moving machines, maintaining circuit protective devices, repairing starters, testing motors, lighting circuits etc.
The second phase of this course comprises a number of NVQ assignments carried out in the learner’s company.
The assignments are chosen by both the College and company to reflect the required skills and provide the required NVQ evidence.
This is a unique course dedicated to the electrical multi-skilling of local companies and the course is a nationally recognised qualification.
The training is focused on a companys needs through assignments alongside a focus on safety.
The day release phase provides all the necessary underpinning knowledge and elected skills to prepare trainees to undertake the company assignments
A College assessor will visit the workplace to help record evidence of assignments and when complete sign off the NVQ. There are also short progress tests during the day release period of the course.

There is no entry requirement for this course. Candidates need to be employed in order to complete the NVQ assignments. Learners will need suitable clothing for the workshop activities.
I found the entire experience of studying my Level 2 course really rewarding, that I decided to further my knowledge by completing a Level 3 course. I’m continually learning new skills and it’s really helping my professional development in the workplace.
