In todays world, engineers work in an environment that encompasses the use of cutting edge technologies and innovative solutions, so you could find yourself designing the next generation of smartphones, designing robots, manufacturing components for fighter jets or developing sustainable energy. Study engineering and you could work within a variety of engineering disciplines such as product design, aerospace, manufacturing, electrical and electronics, communications, mechanical, nuclear and energy, environment or transport.
You may want to combine this qualification with an A Level in Maths or Physics.
Units may include:
· Engineering principles
· Engineering product design and manufacture
· CAD and engineering drawing
· Manufacturing machining processes
· Manufacturing computer numerical control machining
This qualification is equivalent to three A Levels and successful completion will enable progression onto University, a wide range of possible careers and Apprenticeships including Higher Apprenticeships. University Centre Somerset offers a Foundation Degree in Mechanical Engineering leading on to a BEng or MEng Mechanical Engineering Degree awarded by The University of the West of England. Former students have become Design Engineers, Aerospace Engineers and have moved into employment with GE Oil & Gas, Rolls-Royce Aerospace and EDF Energy.

I really enjoy studying at Bridgwater & Taunton College. All of my lessons have a friendly atmosphere and my tutors push me to be the best I can be. Studying here has allowed me to gain the qualifications I need to go on to degree level.
