Course Overview

This is a free practical qualification for those individuals wanting to brush up on their basic Equine Skills and gain a recognised qualification at the same time. Great for anyone who wants to learn more about horses or for those thinking of doing their BHS stages.Topics include:?

  • Assisting with the preparation and aftercare of exercising of the horses.
  • Safe and effective working practices in the land based industries.
  • Maintaining the health of horses
  • Exercising horses under supervision (Optional riding unit cost £40)

Assessment Methods

The assessments will be both practical and written tasks, and will require additional reading, research homework and completing of written work at home.

Throughout the week we have classroom-based theory lessons like stud management, horse fitness and training, equestrian teaching and business. I also ride twice a week at College; I have a lesson improving my riding technique on the flat with Gold Medallist endurance rider Jane McGuiness, and a jumping lesson.
