Course Overview

If your job involves applying pesticides in a commercial role then you are legally required to hold an appropriate Certificate of Competence by the Control of Pesticide Regulations. You should have already successfully achieved the foundation module (PA1).

This qualification is designed specifically for anyone who applies pesticides to control Rats and Mice as part of their daily role.

This course will cover:

  • Legislative requirements and Codes of Practice relating to the use of rodenticides to control rats and mice
  • Relevance of product label information
  • Risks of human contamination and implement emergency procedures
  • How to store and transport rodenticide products safely
  • How to manage and dispose of surplus rodenticide and waste materials
  • Record keeping requirements
  • How to minimise the risk of environmental contamination and implement emergency procedures
  • Environmental factors relating to application
  • Characteristics of rats and mice and their impact on the environment
  • Methods of preventative management and control for rats and mice
  • Site surveys
  • Application of rodenticide products safely

To successfully achieve this course, you will need to complete and pass an independent assessment comprising of observation of practical performance and testing of underpinning knowledge.

If you are already enrolled on a full-time course at the College you may be eligible for a discount, however depending upon your programme of study, you may need to attend outside of your current timetable.

In the unlikely event that your course is cancelled, we will refund your fees. However, these courses are run on viable numbers and if you choose to cancel or withdraw from your course, full fees are payable, unless we can fill your space.

This course is delivered over 1 day with the assessment taking place the day after training. Testing is carried out by an independent City & Guilds assessor.

  • Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Self Propelled, Mounted, Trailed Horizontal Boom Sprayers (PA2)
  • Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Variable Geometry Boom or Broadcast Sprayers (PA3)
  • Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pelleted or Granular Pesticides using Mounted or Trailed Applicators (PA4)
  • Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment (PA6)
