Promoting Wellbeing in the Garden (online) - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

In this course you will be exploring the ways in which gardens and gardening can support your own and others’ wellbeing. Being surrounded by nature is intrinsically calming. The course will help you in creating a space around your home that not only promotes a sense of wellbeing but supports aspects of your physical health and wellbeing too. In addition you will be learning about how gardens can be used to support people with mental health issues or forms of dementia. It is becoming increasingly clear how beneficial gardening can be to wellbeing and mental health.

This year has been very challenging for many during the COVID-19 lockdown and there has been a huge growth of interest in horticulture and how it can help with issues of mental and physical wellbeing. The course was developed to focus on these issues in a supportive online learning environment.

We are running this course again following its success last year. It is delivered by a senior member of our horticulture team with long experience in the industry.

During the 4 sessions you will have the opportunity to learn about methods to promote well-being in the garden, learn about areas of research into the area of mental health, examine the impact of projects such as Horatio’s garden as well as working in discussion groups to share experiences of how gardening has impacted on your life.
