Course Overview

This part-time evening course is suitable for anyone with an interest in learning the basics of live sound engineering.

The course covers the following aspects of live sound engineering:

  • Sound system configuration
  • Staging
  • Microphones
  • Signal flow and gain staging
  • Live sound mixing techniques
  • Dynamic processing and effects
  • Monitoring systems

The course will take the form of practical tasks and group work.

  • Practical workshops to give students hands-on experience working with live sound technologies in a professional live sound environment
  • Fully equipped concert hall
  • Midas 24 channel and Allen & Heath 32 channel analogue mixing desk
  • Yamaha digital mixing desk
  • dB Technologies 3400W 4-way active PA system

Assessment Methods

There are no formal assessments on this leisure course but students will be given practical tasks to demonstrate the knowledge they have gained from each session.

Progression Options

This course could lead on to other music production leisure courses at Bridgwater College, including an Introduction to Pro Tools and an Introduction to Ableton Live.

This course could also lead on to a BTEC level 3 Subsidiary or Extended Diploma in Music Production or Music Technology.
