Course Overview

This course is practical in nature and suitable for students considering pathways into the performing arts industry or higher education performance arts training.

The Extended Diploma in Performing Arts provides skills within all aspects of the three disciplines of dance, acting and singing. The course also provides opportunities to develop skills in creativity and performance, audition preparation and professional training in each discipline. Sessions are delivered in the College’s McMillan Theatre, with students regularly accessing workshops and performances by professionals. Our successful final course performances have seen students performing to packed houses of 300 people or more.

All students study a combination of dance, drama and singing units to give a broad introduction to the many aspects within performing arts. These include:

· Performing arts in context

· Musical theatre

· Drama improvisation

· Acting

· Choreography skills

· Voice and speech

Assessment Methods

Assessment is by coursework based on assignments set in each unit. Assignments involve performance projects, individual research, group work and project work. On successful completion of the course, you will be awarded an overall Distinction, Merit or Pass grade.

Progression Options

The College’s Performing Arts students regularly progress to some of the best known Performing Arts schools such as Arts Educational Schools, Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, East 15 Acting School, Institute of the Arts Barcelona, Performers College and Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Students have gone onto secure employment within the Performing Arts industry including cast members at Disneyland , West End performance roles, Cruise Ship performers and many other roles within the entertainment industry.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the A* to C or 9 to 4 range or a Level 2
Diploma at Merit grade. Dance, Drama, Music or Expressive Arts subjects would be
an advantage, as well as performance experience in or out of school. Entry is
also subject to a successful interview and audition.
