Course Overview

You need to be employed to start an Apprenticeship. Please visit our vacancy page or if you have an employer, please ensure you add full contact details of your employer within your application. If you are unable to secure employment, you could enrol on a full-time study programme and transfer to an Apprenticeship at a later date. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option.

This Apprenticeshipprovides the key knowledge, skills and behaviours required to be a compentent firefighter in a variety or settings

The knowledge, skills and behaviours will be taught and assessed throughout the apprenticeship and include:

  • Knowing how to engage with communities to increase community safety
  • Use appropriate methods to resolve fire and rescue emergency indicidents using a range of specialist equipment
  • Use personal and respiratory equipment in hazardous environments
  • How to operate specialist information communication and technology systems
  • Maintain physical and mental wellbeing
  • Safety work at height, and in, on or around water
  • Extinguish fires safely

There is no requirement to attend College. An Assessor will visit and observe you in your workplace.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is an End Point Assessment (EPA) which consists of a multiple choice question paper, professional discussion and three, two hour practical observations. All teaching and assessment is completed either in the workplace or on an approved training course.

Progression Options

On successful completion, you could progress your career through promotion to posts such as Watch Manager.
