Course Overview

You need to be employed to start an Apprenticeship. Please visit our vacancy page or if you have an employer, please ensure you add full contact details of your employer within your application. If you are unable to secure employment, you could enrol on a full-time study programme and transfer to an Apprenticeship at a later date. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option.

This Apprenticeship combines the skills, knowledge and behaviours to work with groups and individual clients, creating bespoke exercise programmes to suit individual needs and cirumstances.It isbased in a fitness gym environment or a fitness gym within a large sport centre facility and ideal if you want to further your studies after a Level 2 fitness instructor qualification.

The apprenticeship will cover a range of knowedge and skills units which include:

  • Understanding participation behavours and how to engage people in fitness
  • Designing fitness programmes making adjustments to engage people of different abilities and goals
  • Use of social media to market activities, keeping records and using software to analyse outcomes
  • Leadership and coaching
  • Understanding anatomy and physiology

Assessment Methods

The assessment is through an End Point Assessment (EPA) which includes an observed client session, presentation and panel interview. During your studies, a qualified assessor will regularly visit your workplace to check on your progress and ensure you build evidence towards the assessment at the end of the apprenticeship.You will be supported and assessed in the workplace, but provision can be made for you to come into college to complete your assessments if required.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the Personal Trainer Apprenticeship, you could study the Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard Leisure Duty Manager.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 1 (A* to F) range or Level 2 Diploma or Apprenticeship in Fitness Instructing. Entry is also subject to a successful interview.

This course has taught me a lot of useful skills like being organised to help prioritise my workload and meet deadlines and communicating effectively which is essential when coaching sports.
