This course providesan exciting opportunity forthose with a passionfor sports science.It provides a clear pathway toHigher Education courses and the opportunity to pursue a wide range of careers including physiotherapy, sports coaching, teaching, strength and conditioning, performance analysis, nursing and sport development.
This course also offers an overseas residential where students currently have the unique opportunity to coach in under privileged township areas of Port Elizabeth in South Africa to deliver a variety of sporting activities, working alongside the charity United Through Sport.
Units of study include:
Modules will be taught through lectures, laboratory sessions and a range of practical workshops. Assessment is through externally marked exams and case studies, and a variety of internally marked coursework-based methods including observations, presentations and assignments.
On successful completion of the course, you may choose to progress to the Foundation Degree in Sports Science with Sports Coaching Education at University Centre Somerset in Taunton. Former students have also progressed onto a variety of Sport Science related Higher Education courses at institutions such as University of Bath, Exeter University and University of Birmingham.
Alternatively, you could progress towards a Sports related apprenticeship or move into employment in the sports industry, as an Administrator, Instructor or Sports Development Officer.

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 (A* to C) range including English, Maths and Science, or a Merit profile in a relevant Level 2 qualification. For the sport and exercise science strand of this qualification, you need a GCSE grade 5 (B) in maths and/or science. Entry is also subject to a successful interview.
This course has taught me a lot of useful skills like being organised to help prioritise my workload and meet deadlines and communicating effectively which is essential when coaching sports.
