Course Overview

You need to be employed to start an Apprenticeship. Please visit our vacancy page or contact 01278 441234 if you have an employer. If you are unable to secure employment, you could enrol on a full-time study programme and transfer to an Apprenticeship at a later date. Please apply for a full-time course as your second option.

This course is offered to individuals wishing to work in the school environment who would like to study through work-based learning. The course places emphasis on practical ability backed up with an understanding of the principles involved. Whilst at work, you will receive comprehensive practical training designed to develop competence in carrying out relevant tasks that the employer will value. Both courses are divided into two sections; an Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning Level 2/3 and an NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (Outdoors/Coaching/Exercise and Fitness/Leadership) or NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport.

Course content is tailored to your needs and could include:

  • Understanding key legislation related to physical education and school sport
  • Principles of child development through movement
  • Principles of inclusion in physical education and school sport
  • Lead physical education and school sport activities
  • Child and young person development
  • Organise and lead a sports event or competition
  • Safe practice in physical education and school sport

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed by practical assessment, workbooks, observations and a portfolio.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the Level 2, you could progress to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
