Teaching Assistants with Physical Education will work in schools with primary aged pupils. The apprentice will support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning with physical education practice, either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils’ well-being; ensuring pupils thrive in a positive, nurturing, safe environment. It is an active role supporting the learner to access physical education.

Units of study/what is involved

The apprenticeship will cover a range of knowedge and skills units which include:
•Understanding how pupils learn and develop
•Recognise the importance of technology and use it to support learning
•Work with teachers to support assessment for learning
•Keep children safe in education
•Plan, lead and review physical education delivery to include primary gymnastics
•Level 4 Diploma in Primary Physical Education Practice (9 units)

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed by practical assessment, workbooks, observations and a portfolio.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the Level 2, you could progress to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship.
