Course Overview

This apprenticeship is designed for those wishing to work in a school environment delivering coaching and physical education. It places great emphasis on practical deliver of physical education, underpinned with extensive knowledge of the policies, procedures and assessment of physical education in schools.

Topics could include:

•Legislation, policies and procedures
•Child and young person development
•Organise and lead a sports event or competition
•Safe practice in physical education and school sport

Assessment Methods

You will not be required to attend College, since an experienced assessor will provide support and guidance throughout the apprenticeship. You will be formally observed by your assessor whilst you deliver practical sessions, and complete training and collate evidence through an e-portfolio.

Progression Options

On successful completion of this apprenticeship, you could enrol on a Level 4 apprenticeship in sports coaching, health, exercise and fitness, sports development, leisure management or sports science. This apprenticeship is also a route into teaching physical education in schools. Alternatively, you could find employment in school sports delivery and development or the provision of children’s physical activity.

Entry Requirements

You need GCSEs in the 9 to 4 (A* to C) range including English and maths, and will complete an initial assessment at the start of the course. Entry is also subject to a successful interview.
