Agriculture Apprenticeship (LANTRA) Level 2 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

Whilst at worklearners will receive comprehensive practical training that will enablethem to carry out the jobs required by their employer and achieve the Level 2 Diploma in Work Based Agriculture.They will be visited in the workplace by an assessor to check ontheir progress and to ensure thatthey are building evidence towards your final qualification.Learners will have the opportunity to select one of the following options to reflect the type of workthey do, alongside learning about health and safety and obtaining any necessary qualifications in functional skills:

  • Livestock Production: General agriculture; feeding, housing and managaing and monitoring livestock; stock tasks; milk production.
  • Mixed Farming: General agriculture; establishing and maintaining crop production; establishing and maintaining livestock performance; using tractors and equipment.
  • Crop Production: General agriculture; establishing and maintaining the growth of crops; harvesting; using tractors and machinery.
  • Poultry: General agriculture; specialist poultry learning and training; feeding, housing and managaing and monitoring livestock; stock tasks.

Assessment Methods

Continual assessment both within the workplace and at College. Assessment methods include:

  • Practical assessment in the workplace by a College assessor and the employer
  • Written assessments at College (short answer style questions and tests)

Progression Options

Students can progress within the Apprenticeship programme and move on to a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Agricultrure or choose to study the full time Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agriculture.

Entry Requirements
  • Practical experience and enthusiasm and commitment to learning about agriculture
  • GCSE A* – E (or 9 – 3) in English and Maths are an advantage. Students who have the appropriate practical experience and knowledge will be able to work towards functional skills qualifications alongside the apprenticeship programme. An initial assessment in maths and English is required for all learners.
  • Students complete an initial assessment at College which will help ensure that they are guided towards the appropriate programme and offered any necessary support with their learning.
