Agriculture Apprenticeship Level 3 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This programme is ideal if you are employed full-time in the farming industry and wish to study on a day release basis. Whilst at work you receive comprehensive practical training to enable you to carry out the jobs required by your employer and achieve the Apprenticeship.

You will select one of the following options to reflect the type of work you do, alongside learning about health and safety and obtaining any necessary qualifications in English and Maths functional skills:

  • Livestock production: feeding, housing, managing and monitoring livestock, stock tasks, milk production
  • Mixed farming: establishing and maintaining crop production, establishing and maintaining livestock performance, using tractors and equipment
  • Crop production: establishing and maintaining the growth of crops, harvesting, using tractors and machinery

· Poultry: specialist poultry learning and training, stock tasks, and feeding, housing, managing and monitoring livestock

You will receive instruction and training from a range of experienced and qualified practitioners and have access to the modern agricultural and IT facilities at the College’s 200 hectare commercial farm and Agricultural Innovation Centre. Tutorial support and guidance runs throughout your training and you have access to the same range of facilities available to the full-time students.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed in the workplace and at College. You will be visited in the workplace by an assessor to check on your progress and ensure that you are building evidence towards your final qualification. Assessment at College is through short answer style questions and tests.

Entry Requirements

Practical experience, enthusiasm and commitment to learning about
agriculture is essential. You need to have GCSEs A* to C or 9 to 4 in
English and Maths. If you have the appropriate practical experience and
knowledge, you will be able to work towards functional skills qualifications
alongside the apprenticeship programme. An initial assessment in Maths and
English is required for all learners.
