Course Overview

This Apprenticeship offers high quality training, to meet the countryside industry standards. The qualification was designed by the industry for employers and this ensures that the training you receive will equip you with the skills needed by the industry. You will attend College one day per week to work towards gaining detailed underpinning knowledge of your chosen subject area.

The units studied may include:

  • Working practices
  • Prepare ground for seeding and planting
  • Establish and protect moorland vegetation
  • Maintaining plants
  • Environmental machinery
  • Health and safety and legislation
  • Identification and use of plants
  • Carry out habitat management

Assessment Methods

Practical assessment takes place throughout the course and you will compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate your competence.

Progression Options

On successful completion you could progress to supervisory level employment within the industry or continue your studies with a Level 3 Apprenticeship or the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Land & Wildlife Management (Countryside).

I have gained a sound knowledge of so many aspects of the countryside, including native tree species, freshwater fish and flora and fauna, as well as learnt practical skills in things like hedge laying and conducting habitat surveys. I’ve also done work experience with Natural England at a local nature reserve.
