Computer Science is for anyone with a passion for technology who wants to pursue a career in this exciting and rapidly developing global industry. Thesubject will appeal to you if you would like to become a games developer, programmer, web developer, or technical support assistant. The A Level subject consists of three modules, covering fundamentals of programming and data structures and the theory of computation, databases, functional programming and big data.
This module is assessed via a practical programming examination, and tests a student’s ability to program, as well as their theoretical knowledge of computer science from the following subject content:

An assessed piece of coursework called the Computing Practical Project. This requires you to use the knowledge and skills gained to solve a practical problem.
Formal summative assessments are in the form or one practical programming exam, and one written exam at the end of the year. Formative assessments will be carried out throughout the year in a variety of ways including coursework and homework.
You will be required to learn to programme in both years one and two, and your non-exam assessment coursework will involve an extensive investigation and programmed solution.
Combined with other A Level subjects, most students progress to a degree course at University Centre Somerset or another university.
