Course Overview

Design Technology holds many fantastic and exciting opportunities. If you aspire to design the next generation of technologies this is thesubject for you. Product Design (3D design) helps you take a broad view of design and technology, develop their capacity to appreciate engineering design, production of products and appreciate the complex relations between design, materials, manufacture and marketing.
Units and skills studied include:

  • Materials, components and application
  • Learning through designing and making
  • Design and manufacture
  • Design and making practice

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written examinations, practical projects and coursework.

Progression Options

An A Level in Design Technology is an excellent route to university-level engineering qualifications. You could study an HND, degree or advanced engineering or design & technology related Apprenticeship, or find employment.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the A* to C or 9 to 5 range including
Maths and English, and at least one B grade in an essay style subject. Previous
study of Design & Technology or Engineering would be an advantage, but it is
not essential.
