Drama A Level - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This is a highly practical and hands-on A Level subject that balances performance with theatre studies. Everyone is required to perform both devised and scripted works, and study separate texts as part of their written examination. During the first year you are invited to attend professional productions which you review as part of a written paper.

You also have access to The McMillan Theatre, which is the College’s state-of-the-art 350-seat theatre and performing arts centre.

Units of studies include:

  • Performance Workshop: A devised and scripted performance in response to theatre practitioners.
  • Text in Performance: The study of two published plays and a live theatre review.
Performance on a Set Theme: Two linked performances (devised and scripted) on a set theme.
  • Text in Context: The study of two published plays and directorial analysis of an unseen text.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written and practical examinations, performance projects, exploration notes, group work, presentations and theatre analysis.
