Course Overview

This subject is ideal for anyone who wishes to develop an understanding of the dynamic between consumers, manufacturers and the government. Economics is a lively and interesting subject and current affairs are regularly used during the lessons to apply economic theory. The recent financial crisis and political unrest have been used to illustrate the impact on the economic performance of selected countries. By studying Economics you will develop analytical skills and an in-depth understanding of the global economic environment.

The course is split between micro and macroeconomics and will be of interest to anyone who wants to understand human behaviour in the context of the economy and a business. Micro builds models of business and individual behaviour andinvestigates how economies work and why governments need to intervene in markets. This gives youan overview of the world aroundyou and the impact governments and business makes to everyday life.

Assessment Methods

The course is examined at the end in three exams. Regular assessment takes place during the course.

Progression Options

Economics is a highly regarded A Level and sits well alongside other humanities and science based subjects. Students normally progress into university.

 

In recent times students have gained entry into some of the top UK universities such as, Oxford/Cambridge, Manchester, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. Many students have gained unconditional offers when presenting this subject and their UCAS forms. Students have studied at undergraduate level, Finance, Banking, Law, economics and a wide range of business led subjects.
