French A Level - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

We startby going back to basics, refreshing GCSE vocabulary and reinforcing grammar. It will give you a strong foundation from which to progress. You will learn how to express your opinions in speech and writing, participate in role-plays, debates and discussions. There is also a strong focus on French culture, including learning about French film, music and literature. There is a residential trip each year to Paris and extra opportunities to practise speaking with French students of your age group. You will also have extra individual help during regular workshops.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through listening, reading, writing and speaking examinations.

Progression Options

The large majority of our students go on to university with many studying French combined with another subject. You could also work and live in France or a French-speaking country to practise and improve your language skills.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the A to C or 9 to 5 range, including Maths, English
and French.

In the first few weeks you will be allocated a study buddy, your progress
will be assessed and individual targets set. These targets are designed to
improve your language skills and after discussion with your tutor, ensure you
make maximum progress.
