This subject focuses on society and human behaviour. It delves beneath the obvious and uncovers the truth about both British and the global society. You will study topics such as families and households, gender, education, social class, mass media, religion and criminology. You will also look at theories and explanations for social behaviour and the methods used in social research.

Lessons involve discussion, analysis and debate, offering you a real opportunity to get to grips with the material, as well as the chance to get your head around the very particular demands of the exam.
You will be assessed through written examinations.
As a subject, Sociology has universal currency and is expanding in further and higher education. There are many universities which recognise Sociology as a valid subject and accept it as an entrance A Level. The majority of universities also offer three year degree courses allowing students to gain a BSc or BA (Hons) in Sociology, often allowing it to be combined with criminology, psychology or other related topics.
Sociology also has importance for a variety of careers and is seen as an important part of professional training for a variety of occupations including nursing, personnel, social work, police, probation and teaching.
