Course Overview

This course is ideal if you are working in a veterinary practice and wish to have a recognised qualification.You will be in College for up to one and a half days a week and ideally work the rest of the week in a veterinary practice.Over the length of the course you need to gather 600 hours of practical work experience which you will be signed off by your supervisor in the work place.

  • Health and hygiene

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through creating a portfolio of assessments and case studies both at College and your workplace.

Progression Options

Having successfully completed this course you could progress to the Level 3 Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse providing you have the appropriate entry requirements. You may choose to continue to work within a veterinary practice using the knowledge and qualification you have gained.

Entry Requirements

To start the course, you will need employment or a voluntary placement in a
veterinary practice. This does not have to be an RCVS registered Training
Practice (TP). Entry is subject to a successful interview and you will complete
an initial assessment in English and maths to determine your appropriate level
of study.

You need to have attained GCSE English and maths in the 9 to 4 (A* to C)
range. If you have not achieved this grade, you will attend English and/or maths
lessons on a separate day in order for you to successfully achieve your
programme and resit the GCSE.

It’s a very hands-on course and you work with a variety to animals. All the staff are really helpful and the practical aspect of the qualification reinforces what we learn about welfare, housing, laws, animal care and training.
