Informed by employers in the creative industries and some of Europes top creative Higher Education institutions, this course looks at the relationship between disciplines and how they work together in real-world contexts.
The course also allows for extensive experimentation and development of ideas from across the art and design spectrum to be used in a graphic design, photography, art or fashion. A dynamic mixture of industry briefs and challenging problems allows you to build an exciting portfolio, leaning towards a particular area of specialism in year two. You will be introduced to visual language, research skills, critical and contextual awareness, materials, processes and technical skills, as well as audience engagement. These are all skills that employers in the creative industries and top universities require of entrants.

Your practical studio-based experience is enriched through a stimulating programme of residential trips and visits. Previous groups have visited New York, St Ives, London, and European destinations. Work placements and work readiness take place throughout the course to ensure you are ready to progress your studies or enter the workplace.
You are continually assessed through practical and written assignments and external moderation, and your progress is monitored by tutorials and seminars.
On successful completion you could study a degree in subjects such as graphic design, interior design, photography, architecture, game design, animation, illustration, fine art, education, set design, media make-up, costume design, applied arts. fashion, textiles, fine art, media make-up or applied arts. Alternatively you could find employment at junior level or a Creative Apprenticeship in areas such as display, graphic design, interiors, fashion & textiles and community arts or events promotion.

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 4 (A* to C) range including maths and English, or Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design at Merit grade or above. Entry will also be subject to a successful interview and evidence of creative work in a portfolio is beneficial.
My animation skills have improved greatly since I have been learning at BTC. The College uses specialist software such as Adobe Animate and the equipment we use is the same that is used in industry. Alongside my course I am a member of the BTC Animation Academy where we do even more animation and enter competitions.
