Course Overview

By 2018, 4,000 new plasterers and dry liners will be needed in the South West due to the thousands of new homes and industrial developments in Sedgemoor.

During this Apprenticeship you will learn about interior systems. You work on a day release basis with one day per week at College and the rest of your time in employment. The facilities at College for construction training are excellent and stocked with materials, tools and equipment of a high standard.

Working in partnership with a number of local firms and CITB Construction Skills, we have a strong track record of producing a highly-skilled workforce for the construction industry.

The range of work you will cover includes:

  • General workplace safety
  • Efficient work practices
  • Moving and handling resources
  • Finishing and Installing dry lining joints
  • Installing dry lining joints, encasements and partition systems
  • Installing proprietary partition systems
  • Installing suspended ceiling systems
  • Install dry lining by direct bond
  • Apply finishing plasters to plasterboard backgrounds

Progression Options

This is a growth area in the construction industry and successful Apprentices are often offered full-time jobs with their employer. Alternatively, you could progress to a Level qualification in a different discipline.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required, but GCSEs in the 9 to 3 (A* to C)
range would be an advantage. Entry is subject to a successful interview. If you
do not feel quite ready for the Apprenticeship, traineeships in this area are
available at the College.

Spotlight

I was really interested in the College because it has a good selection of tools and machinery, great tutors and I liked the workshops. It also offers courses from Level 1 to 3 in furniture making and design, which meant I could start at Level 1 and build my skills, plus I study maths alongside my course.
