Course Overview

During this two-year course, you learn about the construction techniques and methods used to undertake construction projects. You also undertake an occupational specialism, either bricklaying or carpentry and joinery. The qualification will help you gain an understanding of the onsite industry and the sector, and will cover topics such as health and safety, construction science principles and sustainability in the construction industry. It also includes a mixture of classroom learning and on-the-job experience during an industry placement of at least 45 days.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through written and practical examinations, employer projects, group work, presentations and analysis.

Progression Options

This technical qualification focuses on the development of knowledge and skills needed for working in the onsite industry, which will prepare learners to enter the industry through employment or as an Apprentice. On successful completion, you could find employment in a skilled construction occupation, study a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship or progress to university.

Spotlight

I was really interested in the College because it has a good selection of tools and machinery, great tutors and I liked the workshops. It also offers courses from Level 1 to 3 in furniture making and design, which meant I could start at Level 1 and build my skills, plus I study maths alongside my course.
