T Level Transition Programme in Education and Childcare (equivalent) Level 2 - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Course Overview

This bespoke one-year course has been designed to support those that do not currently meet the entry requirements for the T Level in Education & Childcare but would like to progress onto this course in the future. It will enable you to develop the knowledge, skills and experience to work with children in the future , however it does not give you a license to practice. This course is designed to allow time in your timetable to upgrade your GSCE Maths, English and Science if needed. It is modelled on working in early years and primary settings with an introduction to some of the T Level content which provides a really good grounding in the skills and theories needed to support your progression onto the T Level in Education and Childcare.

You will attend College the equivalent of three full days a week and be expected to complete written assignments and self-study at home. Your work placement will be one day a week and four-week blocks where you attend your early years placement for the whole week.

Units may include:

  • Planning play and learning activities for children
  • Preparing environments for children’s play
  • Observing children’s learning and development

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence using a range of assessment methods. These may include exams, employer set projects, observations of your practical skills in placement. You will complete at least 250 placement hours in either an early years settings and/or a primary schools and complete a professional skills record as part of this.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the course, as well as meeting the progression grade and GCSE requirements, you should progress to the T Level. After completion of the T level you could starting your career in early years employment, go on to primary teaching degrees or our early years degrees such as the ones we run at the University Centre Somerset. Alternatively, you could progress to an Early Years Apprenticeship if you decide a work-based route is more appropriate for you.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range including English Language and maths, and science. You will need an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, with no disclosures, as you will complete a work placement in an early years or primary setting as part of your course. We may also ask you to undertake a one-week placement in an early years setting as part of your entry requirements.
