This bespoke one-year course has been designed to support those not yet ready for or without the entry criteria for the Education & Childcare T Level. It enables you to gain the knowledge and experience which will allow you to work with children from birth to five years. This progression qualification counts towards the Level 2 ratio which allows you to work in an early years setting.
Units may include:
You will attend College for three full days a week and be expected to complete written assignments and self-study at home. Yourindustry placement will be between one and two days a week in four blocks in an early years setting and primary school.
There is a cost of £130 for materials and clothing, plus £50 for a DBS check.
Your learning will be assessed using a range of methods in the classroom and the workplace. In the classroom you will be asked to complete assignments along with end of year exams, while in the workplace you will develop a portfolio of evidence and be observed working with children.
Progression to the T Level at our Taunton campus requires a grade 5 in English language and grade 4 in maths. After successful completion of the Level 2 qualification, you could progress to the Level 3 qualification at our Bridgwater campus which requires a Merit profile and minimum of grade 4 in maths and English language. Alternatively, you could find employment as a Nursery or Classroom Assistant, Nanny, Au Pair or Pre-School Assistant, or progress to an Apprenticeship.

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 3 range, including English and maths. It is important that you have a good level of spoken and written English. You will be required to attend an interview and have completed at least one week of relevant work experience (eg. in a nursey or primary school). You also need a reference and enhanced DBS check.
I didn’t know anyone when I started but quickly make new friendships and have gained in confidence. The work experience helped with that, as well as the staff being really supportive.
