As an equine apprentice you will be entering a vocational industry, where you can expect to handle a variety of horses in different working environments.
The occupation requires competent indviduals who are committed to the safety and welfare of the horses in their care. You will use your theoretical knowledge and understanding, practical experience and empathy to maintain the horses physical and psychological well-being with a safe working environment.
This is a practical hands on occupation where you will work under supervision individually or as part of a diverse team.
The role will involve feeding,grooming,cleaning equipment, handling, preparing, exercising the horses and carrying out routine yard duties.
You will need to be employed for a minimum of 30 hours in a suitable work placement.

Completion of online portfolio over 12-18 months before taking the end point assessment End point assessment consists of one distinct assessment, one professional discussion and one knowledge test. 1. Knowledge test, which will cover areas of knowledge that cannot be observed 2. A practical observation in which the apprentice will demonstrate their skills, Bheviours and underlying knowledge as required by the standard in relation to the core and their chosen route. 3. A professional discussion informed by a portfolio that explores evidence for areas of the standard that have not been assessed in the previous elements as well as explores those skills that require further clarification.
Having successfully completed this course, you could progress to the Level 3 qualification. Alternatively you may choose to continue to work within your current employment and use the knowledge you have gained to move into a supervisory position.

You will need 5 GCSEs in the 9-2 range or other equivalent qualifactions, Full time employment in the equine industry minium 30 hours a week.
Apprentices without level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for level 2 English and Maths prior to end point assessment
My course is made up of classroom-based lessons and practical sessions on the yard. This really helps to bring the theory we learn to life, and makes lessons varied and interesting.
