Course Overview

This course offers an interesting opportunity for anyone who would like to work in the care sector or wishes to progress to a Level 3 qualification. You will gain the skills needed to look after adults within care in a variety of settings.

You will cover all aspects of care including:

  • Human growth and development
  • Working in health and social care
  • Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
  • Communication in health and social care
  • Creative activities in health and social care
  • Common care disorders

This course is mainly classroom based with a work placement to support your learning. The 100 hours of placements in health and social care related settings provide the opportunity to observe professional practice in action and gain valuable employability skills.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is through a portfolio of evidence using a range of assessment methods. These may include assignments, individual research, project work, presentations and written assignments.

Progression Options

On successful completion of the course at Merit level with English and Maths at grade 4 or above, you could choose to progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care qualification, or the T Level Health (Nursing) at the Taunton campus. Alternatively, you could find employment as a Care Assistant, Support Worker, Healthcare Assistant, or start an Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

You need five GCSEs in the 9 to 2 range including English or Maths. It is important that you have a good level of spoken and written English. You will be required to attend an interview and will also need to have a clear enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

My tutors have helped me think about my future and whether I want to progress to the Level 3 qualification or start an Apprenticeship at Musgrove Park Hospital. Either option leads me to university and becoming a fully qualified paediatric nurse.
