Yes, there are many car parks located throughout Bridgwater. We recommend parking in the Barclay Street car park, across the road from the Mercure Hotel. Please view the following link noting where car parks are located:
This year we are holding two graduation ceremonies, one will commence at 11am and the other at 3pm. You are only able to graduate at the ceremony allocated to your course (See Registration times on the Graduation 2019 event page). Graduates and their guests will need to be seated in the church by 10.45am/2.45pm (dependant on the time of your ceremony).
We require all graduates to register at The Mercure Hotel Bridgwater, 56-66 Eastover, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 5AR, which is approximately a six-minute walk through the town to the church. In the event of bad weather, the College will provide a minibus shuttle service to the church.
Each course has been allocated a time slot to register, please see Graduation 2019 event page for registration times. You must arrive at the time noted, if you are unable to please contact the Marketing department.
We stagger the registration to try and ensure that you are not waiting in a queue for too long a period when you could be socializing and celebrating with your classmates, lecturers, friends and family.
Once you have registered, you need to collect your gown, have your official photographs taken and enjoy yourself! You will collect your gown from The Mercure Hotel and have your official photographs taken in the church (please follow signage around the venues).
Please make sure you are familiar with the format of the ceremony, before it starts. Members of staff from the Marketing and Higher Education teams will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
Graduates will be seated in the seating to the rear of the church; you will be allocated a seat – you must sit in the seat displaying your name.
No, we do not provide cloakroom services. Graduates are advised to leave any coats/bags etc with their guests as you may not return to the same seat after receiving your award.
The ceremony lasts for approximately one hour.
You will be presented with a certificate, but please be aware that this may not be from the university or awarding body from which you are graduating.
Not all certificates will have been produced by the date of our graduation ceremony and we therefore produce a University Centre Somerset certificate to present to you at the ceremony. Once we receive your official certificate we will forward this to you.
The name on your official certificate will match the name you were registered with by the awarding institute on completion of your course. Should you wish to change the name on your certificate, you will need to contact the institute directly. For contact details, please call the HE team on 01823 366348.
After the ceremony you are invited to join us at the Mercure Bridgwater for a complimentary glass of wine/soft drink. This is not compulsory, it is a gesture from the College.
Noted below are a few restaurants which are in close proximity of St Mary’s Church that you may wish to try.
To help you with booking a table we are expecting Ceremony 1 to finish at approximately 12pm and Ceremony 2 at 4pm.

Yes, students graduating must wear academic dress. You will not be able to graduate if you are not wearing a gown and mortar board (hat).
You can hire your gown from Ede and Ravenscroft at www.edeandravenscroft.com. Please make sure you do this in advance of the ceremony, the site will close approximately two weeks before the ceremony takes place. Follow the instructions on their website. You will need your student ID number for this. Your institution name is University Centre Somerset.
Gowns cost £45 to hire. For more information, and to hire your gown please visit www.edeandravenscroft.com.
The ceremony is a formal occasion and you are requested to dress appropriately. You will find it useful to wear a buttoned shirt/blouse to which the academic hood can be fastened, or alternatively bring some small safety pins to affix the button-loop of the hood to your clothes. Hair pins are also useful to secure your mortar board (hat) in place.
You will need to contact Ede and Ravenscroft directly to find out if you are eligible for a refund, for further details please visit www.edeandravenscroft.com.
Please contact a member of the Marketing team on 01278 441216 as soon as you think you may not arrive at the ceremony on time. The sooner you inform us, the sooner we can make arrangements.
Please note: if you are running late we cannot guarantee that you will be able to take part in the ceremony.
Photographs have to be pre-ordered with Ede & Ravenscroft, visit their website to make a reservation www.edeandravenscroft.com.
If you do not make a booking to have your photograph taken before the ceremony, you will still be able to on the day providing there is space and time. Payment will need to be made on the day.
Ede and Ravenscroft will have their equipment set up in the Church.
Photographs need to be taken before the ceremony. We recommend that as soon as you have registered and are dressed in your gown, you should make your way to the church to have your photograph taken. There may be a queue, but as you can expect a lot of people have pre-paid for this service, please be patient.
Yes, your guests are very welcome to take pictures/video during the ceremony, but we would politely ask that those with cameras take care not to obscure the view of other guests.
Members of College staff will be taking photos on the day to use for promotional purposes; these will also be available for you to view and download from Flickr. If on the day you do not want your photograph to be taken please advise a member of staff.
Yes, each graduate is able to bring two guests along with them. If you require extra seating, please highlight this on your registration form. Once all responses have been received we will be able to gauge if extra seating is available, if so we will contact you directly.
No we allocate each graduate two guest spaces at no extra charge (plus extras if available).
Your guests will be seated at the front of the church; these seats are not allocated and are available on a first come first served basis. If any of your guests are disabled, please advise us by calling the Graduation Team on 01278 441241 and we will reserve seating for them.
Of course, but please note if you are graduating your child/children will not be able to sit with you, they will need to sit in the rear pews and be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Please can we ask that if your child/children are disruptive during the ceremony that they are taken outside.
There is no dress code. Guests should wear what they feel comfortable in, however as it is a formal occasion we tend to find guests dress smartly.
