Design Student wins Cycle Campaign Logo Competition - Bridgwater & Taunton College

A talented Bridgwater & Taunton College (BTC) Design Academy student has won a competition to design a logo for the Wellington to Taunton Cycle Path Campaign.

The Wellington to Taunton Cycle Path Campaign hopes to implement a segregated cycle path alongside the A38 between Wellington and Taunton to enable easier and safer commuting by bike on the route. The organisers gave the Design Academy students a brief asking for a distinctive graphic suitable for a range of formats, including websites, social media, letter heads, t shirts and signs.

The winning design was by Dawid Zuromski, who is completing an Extended Diploma in Art & Design at BTC’s Taunton campus. Dawid said

I used Adobe software, Photoshop and Illustrator to create the idea. I wanted to use the map to give it a location, then found a way of using the monuments from Wellington to Taunton to feature in the wheels, so there was a strong visual connection. I enjoy working digitally to create artwork on my course, and hope these skills will help me get a job as a Graphic Designer. I’m very pleased that my design was chosen. It’s great to have something in my portfolio that has been seen by lots of people as part of a campaign.

The team behind our project was really impressed with a range of designs submitted by the students. We thought many of them would have made great campaign logos, but there was something about Dawid’s design that captured everything the project wanted to communicate. We will be very pleased to use it on everything from the website to t shirts to promote the campaign.

The Design Academy is one of many fantastic extra-curricular activities open to BTC students. The Design Academy is a great chance for students to develop key industry skills by working on real, live projects. It means they can learn about working quickly to a brief and gain confidence in communicating with clients and presenting ideas. Dawid has worked very hard to develop a good eye for graphic design, and it has been great to see him develop his work to such a professional standard.

BTC’s Design Academy is one of a large number of extra-curricular opportunities available to students at the College, regardless of the subject they study. Others include Dance, Fashion, Media, Photography, Technology, Team BTC and the 999 Academy for students interested in careers with uniformed protective services. For more information, visit the BTC Academies page or come along to our next open event.
