Tutor of Dog Grooming wins Medal for Excellence | Bridgwater College - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Bridgwater College’s Sue Gould, who teaches dog groomers at the College’s Cannington Centre, has received a top award in the annual City & Guilds Medals for Excellence Awards.

She was one of only seven tutors from across the country to receive the prestigious award, which was in recognition of her ‘outstanding achievement and contribution to teaching of the City & Guilds Level 2 and Level 3 Diplomas in Dog Grooming’. She claimed her award at a glitzy ceremony at The Roundhouse in London on 15 March.

Tutor of Dog Grooming wins Medal for Excellence in national awards

Sue joined the College in 2009. Prior to this she had a successful, international career as a tutor and commercial groomer. She explains,

“I have been training students for nearly 30 years, and have instructed far too many students to count, but it probably amounts to thousands worldwide, and I am immensely proud of all of them! While it was the students and staff at Bridgwater College who nominated me for this award, winning this medal actually represents a lifetime of accomplishment, and reflects the achievements of all of my students. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to contribute to their lives and their careers.”

By a chance of fate, Sue has trained a former medal winner, who was the first and only dog grooming student to win a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence in the 100 year history of the competition. Similarly, Sue is the only dog grooming tutor to win this award, which acknowledges exceptional talent among students, tutors and assessors.

Jeremy Kerswell, Head of Land-based at Bridgwater College said,

“We are so delighted for Sue, she is a very worthy winner of this award. Along with her assistant Linda Sellick, she has completely transformed the teaching of dog grooming at the College, and her passion and enthusiasm for teaching and learning shines through on a daily basis.”

Sue is introducing two new courses for people wanting to train in dog grooming, with a one day a week course starting on Monday 23 for April for 17 weeks, and a four day a week intensive course running for four weeks from Tuesday 10 July. For full details, call Sue on 01278 655210.
