There are few restrictions on what the bursary can be used for, however we anticipate BTC students may need help meeting the cost of advanced sewing machines, over lockers or specific fabric to enable them to produce high quality portfolio pieces.

Students may also wish to obtain support for attendance at fashion fairs or interviews. Applicants will be required to outline what they require help with and the associated costs.

In order to apply, you must be:

• Between the ages of 16 and 25 years at the date of your award
• Normally resident in the administrative county of Somerset (including North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset)
• Studying a fashion or textiles related course at Bridgwater & Taunton College
• Able to demonstrate an intention to advance your education in the field of fashion and textiles

The bursary is not necessarily linked to your household income, although applicants who demonstrate financial hardship which may be impacting on their ability to progress in their studies may be prioritised.

Terms and Conditions
The awarding panel meets every month to discuss all applicants and decide which students will become recipients of the Doris Southcott Bursary. The first panel meeting will be held during the second half of the autumn term.

If you are awarded a grant the College will monitor your progress and attendance on your course. You will be expected to provide an evaluation statement on how receiving your grant has been of benefit to you and how it has positively impacted on your studies.
