What to bring with you
Some courses require you to wear or bring certain items. This is really important because if you don’t bring the correct clothing you may not be able to take part in your chosen taster.

Subjects

Art & Fashion, Media, Photography & Design
Get an insight into the world of Art, Design, Fashion and Design. Experience drawing in new and innovative ways to help stretch you skills. Use photography and our industry standard design software to create a variety of communication mediums and finally get a little taste of the fashion industry, by exploring everything from design and marketing through to buying and retail display.

Automotive
During this interesting taster you will work in our state-of-the-art workshop learning how vehicles work and how to repair them. You may get messy so please dress appropriately and wear sturdy shoes/boots.

Legal and Accounting
Our new T Level qualifications will prepare learners for a future career in the Accounting or Legal professions. A blend of academic study, linked with exciting Industry Placement opportunities, will provide you with essential employability skills. Join us to find out more and participate in some great activities to get a taste of this sector of professional work.

Carpentry, Brickwork and Painting & Decorating 
If you enjoy hands-on tasks and like working outside, then the construction industry may be for you! Come and work alongside our Apprentices and experienced staff to learn some new skills to get you started; from how to build a small brick peer in our state-of-the-art brick workshop to how to mark out, saw, chisel, and make a basic timber joint. You will also have the chance to try out some practical decorating skills, for example, learning to use a variety of painting techniques, wallpapering or applying decorative effects.

Please wear old clothes and sturdy shoes/boots. Trainers will not be suitable.

Digital (Computing)
Join us to find out about this dynamic industry. Use our excellent computer resources to learn about a variety of computer applications, how to produce and publish a website and make you own MP3 player using programming skills, build a PC from scratch, design for digital products such as games and 3D models.

Early Years
This taster will give the chance to explore early years theory and practice in our purpose-built early years room. You’ll  get a chance to meet the team face to face and people like you that have applied and spend the morning deepening your understanding of learning, child development and play. You will also have the chance to hear what our year 1 and 2 students and the early years have been working on over this academic year.

Engineering and Nuclear Clean Energy 
Would you like to work in one of the UK’s most important industries? Join us and learn about Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM), aerospace engineering, communications technology and electronics. Engage in activities that will give you a flavour of the type of skills and hi-tech technology required by modern industry. You will also discover the skills needed to join the dynamic and technical Nuclear Clean Energy industry. Find out how we use VI and other high-tech teaching aids to replicate the nuclear environment.

Hairdressing, Beauty and Barbering
Are you interested in finding out more about the new Hairdressing, Barbering and Beauty level 3 T Level. First opportunity to enroll onto a Level 3 industry specific qualification. This is equivalent to 3 A levels and has been created with employers to make it the best option if you want to study in this exciting sector. Come and meet the team, have an opportunity to gain some knowledge and skills development. Talk to the team about the opportunities available to them with industry placements in the sector. Please wear flat, closed toe shoes to comply with health and safety regulations.

Health
This taster gives you the opportunity to meet the team face to face and find out more about the programme following or before your interview. You’ll undertake some fun activities from the care and science curriculum that make up your first year in our purpose-built T level centre including our simulation ward. You’ll also learn about what are current year 1 and 2 students have been doing over this year and how our placements and organised with Musgrove Park Hospital and Cream Care.

International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)
Come and experience what it’s like to study this stimulating and exciting qualification. The IB enables you to study six different subjects, along with a challenging core of activity that prepares you for university or employment either in the UK or overseas.

Plumbing, Electrical and Building Services
No two jobs are ever the same within these industries. Learn about the skills required to work within the building services. You could be a budding electrician if you are interested in working with the latest energy-saving equipment. Learn how to connect a plug and socket and get a taste for the industry in our electrical workshops. Or are you interested in becoming a plumber, repairing water pipes and installing eco-friendly systems. Learn about some of the skills you would need, such as soldering and bending a copper tube.

Please wear old clothes and sturdy shoes/boots. Trainers will not be suitable.

Sport and Uniformed Protective Services
This practical taster brings together skills and attributes required within the Sport and Uniformed Protective Services industries. Whether you are interested in a career in sport science, physical education, health and fitness and coaching, or the Public and Emergency Services, this session is for you! Discover what it would be like to study the practical and theoretical aspects of our national award-winning sports curriculum, alongside the leadership and problem solving skills required for a career in the Public and Emergency Services.

Please bring sports kit and trainers.
