NCfN@BTC‘s partnerships with the industry multinationals have resulted in significant investment in this state-of-the-art nuclear training facility which includes a virtual reality environment, a reactor simulator, computer-equipped training rooms, recreation and collaboration space, as well as sports facilities and accommodation.
NCfN@BTC uses an innovative combination of physical, augmented and virtual reality to recreate a ‘live’ nuclear installation within its walls, enabling students and apprentices to experience the ‘inside’ of a nuclear power plant and experiment with different outcomes as part of their learning, in ways that could not be countenanced in a live installation.
NCfN has developed and is delivering the UK’s nuclear sector curriculum, designing qualifications and training courses that are attractive to our students and meet the demand for highly skilled workers in the nuclear sector. Our courses are designed in partnership with the sector for a range of highly-specialised careers.
Sellafield Ltd and EDF Energy have led industry input, working alongside Lakes and BTC Colleges, plus higher education providers, University of Cumbria, University of Bristol and University Centre Somerset.
