Future Personal Trainers Work with Local School Students - Bridgwater & Taunton College

Students studying a range of programmes including Sport and Exercise Science, YMCA Level 3 Personal Training and Level 2 Fitness Instruction have designed body conditioning programmes to Year 10 and 11 students at Haygrove School.

This opportunity has not only given the future personal trainers the experience of designing individual programmes for their client, but also given the school students access to excellent gym facilities at the College which they may not have had access to previously. Both groups worked well together to focus their training by incorporating cardiovascular, resistance and body weight training to meet individual goals and improve their overall fitness.

Dominic Hodges, Tutor for Sport at Bridgwater & Taunton College said, “This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain experience of working with different individuals and pushing them out of their comfort zone. They have been able to work on developing key skills and techniques that are vital if they want to succeed in the industry. It is also a great chance for the Haygrove students to see the College and have a look at the facilities that will potentially be available to them when they leave school.”

Cally Bullock, who is studying the YMCA Level 2 Fitness Instructing course at the College said, “Working with the Haygrove students has helped me to develop my confidence as a trainer by working on my social skills and instructing ability. I am better able to work to a tight timescale and be adaptable with the students as they all require different training methods.”
